                  a history/celebration of Obedience Titled GS

                                        from 1996 to 2009                                         

The German Spitz is not a common sight in the Obedience Trial ring and indeed the idea of such a breed competing often brings peals of laughter from those who nothing of their talents.

They are NOT an easy breed to trial. Easy to train, not to trial .In my opinion, this is because they possess the type of intelligence that sees repetition as meaningless.

Well done to all those who saw the potential in the mittel and wished to promote this special breed in another, altogether  different, challenging & humbling area.                                                                

What these handlers have done is nothing short of a LIVING WORK of ART with their finished product...the dog/handler team. So many people forget that it the TEAM effort that shines on the day . GS owners have been known to say that GS are "good at obedience ". This ,in effect, takes the insight and many skills of the handler out of the equation. The mittel handler has a difficult enough job..to keep an independent, thinking dog in tune, alert and motivated to work and pass those tests!!

 A special mention should go to those who handled their dogs to a Conformation title as well.It is a very difficult achievement to compete in both rings. Awesome work !!

According to ANKC records,the mittel began to earn awards in 1996..From 1996 until 2008,there have been only 15 titled mittels: eleven dogs and four bitches.  See the results in their special page:

Three CCD`s, ten  CD`s have been gained,2 CDX`a and one qualifying pass in CDX since 1996.

• Merrifox
• Ryfrost
• Kimberwalli 
• Kanyanya     are those kennels who have produced the dogs who have earned these titles.

No dog can earn a title without that important  part of the equation: their handler. These are the handlers whose mittels worked for wih such success.

Special mention to Aus Ch Kanyanya Bobbie Dazzler CD, the first mittel to obtain dual titles in Conformation and Obedience in....handled by Lena Cordon. A milestone for the breed.

Congratulations to those teams who achieved in the 90`s in CCD and the 190`s  for CD,CDX and beyond!!! They deserve special mention as these are marks denoting excellence.

Aus Champion Merrifox Snugazza Bug achieved his CD title in July 2009 with scores in the high 180`s. 

Aus Ch Atetak Feelin Foxy CD             remains the only mittel bitch in Australia to achieve a Conformation title and an Obedience title.    Please click on her name to review her story.
