                    We are a small but select kennel, devoted to the promotion and protection of the German Spitz .

                                Merrifox Cottage Gardens:

 a quiet , beautiful place where we began.

 This kennel is one of an Australian based  Alliance of German Spitz kennels, judges, exhibitors & pet owners  committed to a caretaker role of the breed . We wish to promote a proactive, unified aproach to its future .  The German Spitz is not seen in big numbers consistently in the show rings of Australia and hardly ever in the trialling rings of Obedience and Agility !

We, at Merrifox, are  endeavouring to change that scenario  by exhibiting our dogs in many other areas besides conformation, especially in the Obedience trial ring. We wish to  show the dog fancy  and the wider public  that this  is not only a breed of great  beauty , but is one that is capable of excelling in  a wide variety of canine pursuits.

   Our dogs  are well known in competition Obedience in NSW and interstate  for their outstanding performance and success !  Read more ....

We have bred and exhibited mittels under our own & other prefixes to Conformation Champion titles under local and international judges, taking out top honours at Royals.

Our kennels are unique in that we specialize in  promoting the mittel as a handy, working dog. ..a dog that has retained its form and therefore its function of endurance and effortless movement & buoyancy as demonstrated in its history of trotting alongside the horse and cart,  of scrambling over luggage etc on the search for vermin and any other unwelcome critter and of alerting the master to strangers . Surely there is no greater alert dog, a very valuable asset !Most of all , the German Spitz  is capable  of giving the greatest devotion as a companion.Our primary aim is to promote the breed in this fashion and multi title our dogs in both conformation and dogsports.

We want to the world to witness  the mittel for its beauty and its undeniable charm and wit ..its exuberance and its versatiity.
